Dental Implants

Statistics from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry show that a whopping 69 percent of American from ages 35 to 44 are missing at least one tooth. Statistics also show just how important it is to take care of missing teeth as soon as possible. One missing tooth often leads to more missing teeth, and that usually means bigger dental problems down the road.

There are options for you to regain the form and function of your natural teeth with dental implants. Find out if dental implants might be the answer for your missing teeth by contacting Dr. Chris Baboulas and Dr. Kathy Karalekas at the North Shore Center of Dental Health.

Dental Implants: The Basics

  • Dental implants are the most natural way to replace one or more missing teeth.
  • Functionality is very similar to one’s natural teeth; esthetically, dental implants provide the most realistic tooth replacement.
  • Generally made from titanium, dental implants are placed directly into the jawbone to mimic the root of the tooth.
  • Crowns are attached to the tops of the implants and look just like your natural teeth.
  • Taking care of dental implants is much like taking care of your natural teeth, with the same flossing and brushing requirements.
  • Dental implants are sturdy and can last a lifetime.

The Procedure for Getting Dental Implants

Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or all of your teeth. After you consult with one of our dentists, we will:

  • Conduct an initial exam
  • Review your medical and dental history
  • Explore other treatment options
  • Work with you to develop a plan

Caring for Your Dental Implants

Another advantage to dental implants is that caring for them at home is the same as caring for your natural teeth.

  • Brushing and flossing at least twice per day is recommended to care for your implants.
  • You will also want to visit your dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings. Even though your implants cannot develop cavities like natural teeth, they can show signs of wear and tear, so it’s important to keep up with your visits to our office.

Don’t live with missing teeth or risk losing other teeth. Call North Shore Center of Dental Health and make an appointment to find out if dental implants are right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental implants provide the best way to replace one or more missing teeth, and dentures are another good option for replacing multiple teeth. The advantage of dental implants is that they look totally natural and provide the same functionality as your natural teeth. They also prevent shrinkage of the jawbone. However, dentures can also provide patients with fully functioning, natural-looking teeth, particularly when mini-implants are used for denture stabilization.
